A logbook first. Community when you want it.
Reeliva has people in it, but it is not a social network. There is no feed, no likes, no comments, no followers and no direct messages — and that is a design decision, not a missing feature.
Three different things, kept separate
These are easy to confuse and mean genuinely different things in Reeliva.
Fishing Buddy
Someone you fish with. You add them yourself, and record them on catches and sessions.
A buddy is a note in your logbook. They do not need a Reeliva account, and adding one tells nobody anything.
Friend
A mutual connection between two Reeliva accounts, accepted by both.
Friendship is a privacy relationship: it decides who can see catches you set to “Friends”, and profiles set to friends-only.
Public Profile
Your community identity: a handle, a display name, and optionally a picture, region and favourite species.
Optional. You can use Reeliva fully without publishing one.
A buddy can be linked to a Reeliva account if they have one, but the two stay distinct: linking does not turn your private notes into their data.
Sharing is always a deliberate act
Every catch starts private and stays private until you change it. There are three separate switches, in this order:
1. Who can see it
Private, Friends, or any signed-in Reeliva angler. Never the open web.
2. Share with a spot
Offered only once the catch is public. This adds it to what has been recorded at that place.
3. Enter rankings
Offered only once it is shared. Contributing to a place and entering a competition are not the same thing.
Turning any of them off withdraws the catch. Making a catch private again removes it everywhere it appeared.
What another angler can see
Of a shared catch
Species, weight, length, date, method and bait — and your handle if you published a profile. Nothing else.
Never
Where you caught it. Your notes, photos, weather, fishing buddies, the session it belonged to, your email, or your account id.
Finding people, and keeping them away
Find an Angler
Search by handle. Only anglers who published a profile appear, and only their profile — a name, a handle and a picture.
Report and block
Report a public spot, a profile or a shared catch. Block an angler and neither of you appears to the other. Reports are reviewed; the person reported is not told who reported them.
Community participation is free. Sharing catches, contributing to public spots and entering rankings do not require Reeliva Pro. See plans.
