A public spot is a location somebody deliberately published for other anglers to find. Nothing becomes one automatically, and your own spots are never published by Reeliva.
What a spot tells you

- How many anglers contributed them
- Species recorded, and how often
- When the last one was recorded
And what it does not
No rating, no score, no “good fishing”, and no claim that fish are there now. Reeliva reports what anglers submitted, because that is all it knows.
Where the numbers come from
This is the rule that makes the rest of it safe.
Spot activity comes only from catches anglers deliberately shared with that spot. A private catch never contributes. Nor does a public catch that was not offered to the spot, nor a friends-only one. Associating a catch with a spot does not share it — that is a separate switch.
So a count of ten means ten catches whose owners each chose, individually, to add them here.
Approximate and exact
Approximate
Published rounded to about a kilometre. Shown as an area, drawn differently from an exact pin, and labelled “approximate location”. The original precise coordinate is not stored publicly and cannot be recovered from the map.
Exact
Published at the point the creator chose. Still the spot’s own coordinate — never the coordinates of a catch somebody logged there.
Whoever adds a spot chooses which. A well-known jetty is reasonably exact; a stretch of river you would rather not pin down is not.
Adding and looking after spots
- Anyone signed in can add a public spot, with a name, a region and a precision.
- Reeliva suggests possible duplicates before you add one, and merges nothing automatically.
- The creator can edit or remove a spot they added; a spot other anglers have linked catches to cannot simply be moved out from under them.
- Anyone can report a spot that is wrong, misplaced or inappropriate.
A public spot is a place somebody shared. It does not mean anyone has permission to fish there — check local rules, access and licensing before you go.
